Alport Research Hub
The Alport Research Hub, funded by Kidney Research UK in partnership with the Stoneygate Trust, brings together leading UK and international expertise in Alport syndrome to create a coordinated, collaborative research platform.
There is an urgent need for coordinated innovation to improve disease understanding, enable earlier diagnosis, and support the development of targeted treatments for people with Alport syndrome.
About the Alport Research Hub
By strengthening and connecting the existing research community, the Hub is accelerating progress from discovery science to diagnosis and new treatments.
Accelerate research
Transform early diagnosis
Develop treatments
Meet the team
The UK Hub encompasses a physical hub using advanced laboratory methods, including in-vitro and ex-vivo approaches, a virtual hub connecting people living with Alport syndrome and those carrying Alport gene variants, and several funded research projects.
The Alport Research Hub is led by Professor Rachel Lennon from the University of Manchester, in collaboration with Professor Daniel Gale from University College London and Professor Neil Turner from the University of Edinburgh.
We are optimistic that results and transformative treatments could begin to emerge from the hub and linked projects within the next five years.
Funding cutting edge research
To deepen understanding of disease mechanisms, enable earlier diagnosis, and accelerate the development of targeted treatments.
Projects include:
- Gene therapy approaches for Alport syndrome
- More sensitive blood and urine biomarkers to track disease progression
- How pregnancy affects kidney health in people with Alport syndrome
- Why people with Alport syndrome lose their hearing
