Up to one in five people receiving certain cancer treatments can experience acute kidney injury, and some go on to develop long term kidney disease or kidney failure. There is also limited evidence to guide treatment decisions for patients with kidney disease that experience cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>People\u00a0living with\u00a0kidney disease\u00a0face an increased\u00a0risk\u00a0of\u00a0developing\u00a0certain\u00a0cancers\u00a0and often experience poorer outcomes.\u00a0This includes individuals receiving dialysis or living with a transplant.\u00a0The mechanisms\u00a0driving this\u00a0risk are not\u00a0completely\u00a0understood, meaning\u00a0patients\u00a0with kidney disease\u00a0are\u00a0missing out on\u00a0novel therapies and\u00a0personalised\u00a0treatments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kidney cancer is now the sixth\u00a0most common cancer in the UK,\u00a0with\u00a0numbers\u00a0increasing.\u00a0\u00a0It is often diagnosed at a late stage due to a lack of early symptoms and the absence of simple screening tools, highlighting a clear need for improved early detection and risk stratification approaches.\u00a0<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Research-Strategy-Document-Updated-address-Feb-2025.pdf\"  target=\"_self\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tView research
