They will\u00a0be key for us to\u00a0deliver the ambitious goals\u00a0we have\u00a0set in our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Research-Strategy-Document-Updated-address-Feb-2025.pdf\">2020-2030 &#8216;Leading transformation in kidney health&#8217; Charity strategy<\/a>,\u00a0and they will remain essential long after 2030.<\/p>\n<p>We aim to accelerate\u00a0our strategic goals\u00a0by\u00a0funding\u00a0outstanding\u00a0data\u00a0science and\u00a0AI-enabled\u00a0research that\u00a0ultimately improves\u00a0the lives of\u00a0kidney patients. For our first Data Science round, we invite research proposals addressing kidney-related questions through the full breadth of data science approaches, ranging from bioinformatics and omics to health data science.<\/p>\n<p>In particular, we are keen to receive proposals that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Focus on the interplay between cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases.<\/li>\n<li>Employ data science methods to understand and address systemic health inequities in kidney health.<\/li>\n<li>Aim to further our understanding of kidney disease using publicly-available multiomic and biological data, including (but not limited to) NURTuRE data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We strongly encourage applications from research teams with shared leadership including a researcher with a kidney research background and a co-PI\u00a0 with a data science\/bioinformatics\/AI background.<\/p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Research-Strategy-Document-Updated-address-Feb-2025.pdf\"  target=\"_self\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tView our research strategy\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kidneyresearchuk.org\/research\/data-ai-strategy\/\"  target=\"_self\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tView our Data Science and AI strategy\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t<h2>Types of grants available<\/h2>\n<p>We welcome applications for\u00a0the following grant types:<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 id=\"fl-accordion--label-0\">Research project grants<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<button type=\"button\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-0\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>Funding available: up to \u00a3300,000<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: maximum of three years, may be spread over a three-year period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 id=\"fl-accordion--label-1\">Startup grants<\/h2>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<button type=\"button\" id=\"fl-accordion--icon-1\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"fl-accordion--panel-1\"><i>Expand<\/i><\/button>\n\t\t\t\t\t<p>Funds standalone research studies to investigate new hypothesis that lack any significant research evidence or preliminary data<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Grant available: up to \u00a340,000<\/li>\n<li>Funding period: maximum of two years, may be spread over a one- or two-year period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t<p>NURTuRE Biobank will wave access fees for NURTuRE datasets for startup grants (not including SAIL fees).<\/p>\n\t<h2>Submitting an application<\/h2>\n<p>Information of eligibility, grant regulations and conditions, and opening and closing dates for submissions.<\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Create account or log in to our Grant Management system<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<p><strong>Submit full grant application<\/strong><\/p>\n\t<p><strong>We will review your submission and update your application status<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>\n\t\t\tApplication info\t<\/h2>\n\t<p>We encourage applications from those who seek initial or further support to establish their research career, and investigators who have not previously held competitively awarded project or start-up funding as a principle investigator.<\/p>\n<p>All submissions will be subject to expert review involving members of our college of experts and experts by experience panel.
