Nurses and pharmacists play a vital role in research, offering valuable insight and practical expertise that bring unique insights and help to drive progress and improve outcomes for patients. We are committed to increasing the opportunity for nurses and pharmacists to participate in undertaking research by providing support for at different stages of their research career. We welcome their applications to help us take forward the areas outlined in our research strategy.
Does your proposal align to our research priorities?
Research proposals should directly address priorities in our Research Strategy to 2030.
- Prevent more people from developing kidney disease
- Protect those living with kidney disease from kidney failure
- Transform Treatments for people with kidney failure
Consideration should be given to tackling health inequalities, collaboration and cross-fertilisation of ideas, harnessing data, and patient participation, inclusion and engagement.
We are seeking research proposals across the research continuum, from discovery science (aetiology and underpinning) through to health and social care research services, and implementation science.
Applicants may discuss their application in advance with Kidney Research UK, where the applicant may require their salary to be covered on a Start-up or Research Project application. Any decision to allow an application that requests their salary is at the discretion of Kidney Research UK

We encourage applications from those who seek initial or further support to establish their research career, and investigators who have not previously held competitively awarded project or start-up funding as a principal investigator.

The Association of Nephrology Nurses UK (ANN UK) is committed to supporting nurses in developing high-quality applications for Kidney Research UK funding. We offer mentorship, methodological expertise, and opportunities to engage with nurse researchers who have successfully secured funding.

All submissions will be subject to expert review involving members of our college of experts and experts by experience panel. Get more information about the expert review process.
All lead applicants must be resident in the United Kingdom and the research must be led from a UK establishment.
