First main round

We are looking for research applications that focus on any part of our research strategy. These can be from underpinning research and aetiology through to health service research, and implementation science.

Alongside the main open round, to the same deadlines, we are also specifically calling for research proposals addressing rare, hereditary and paediatric kidney disease, including proposals addressing the challenges described in our Collectively Common report.

We have increased the ceiling on our research project to £300,000 for a three-year period. All applications to this round are a single stage full application.

Joint HDR UK and Kidney Research UK masters scholarship funding

Supports MSc scholars, with an interest in kidney disease, to carry out real-world health data research.

We encourage applications from students who have been accepted on relevant UK university master’s courses. Candidates will be awarded after an aptitude test, followed by an interview. MSc studies will commence in September.

Joint MRC and Kidney Research UK clinical research training fellowship

Supports medical graduates to specialise in the renal field thereby expanding the levels of expertise in kidney research and treatment.

Appropriate for medical graduates in clinical or academic renal medicine and are only awarded after interview of short-listed candidates. These are offered as part of the main triannual MRC fellowship rounds.
